Screening of "Someone's Daughter, Someone's Son" in London- Raising funds for Centrepoint

February 2024

The Bryan Adams Foundation hosted a screening of a documentary film by Lorna Tucker on homelessness, raising funds for Centrepoint. “Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son”. Now a successful filmmaker, Lorna was once a teenage runaway sleeping rough on the streets of London. For this frank, forceful and inspiring documentary, she returns to her former haunts and speaks to current and former homeless people about why, 25 years later, record numbers of people are still reduced to living on Britain’s streets.

Centrepoint is the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity. Alongside their partners, they support over 16,000 young people every year and campaign to end youth homelessness by 2037.

Starting out as a night shelter, Centrepoint’s work with young people has changed beyond all recognition over the last 50 years. But with almost 136,000 young people experiencing homelessness last year, they are needed more than ever before.

Centrepoint work with partners in schools to identify 11-16 year olds who are at hidden risk of homelessness. They run over 60 accommodation services, working in 15 boroughs in London, Sunderland, Manchester, Bradford and Barnsley. They provide in-house mental health support to help young people to heal from their experiences. Then, when they’re ready, Centrepoint help put young people on the path to lasting employment through employability programmes, functional skills training and other learning initiatives. They provide a dedicated helpline and financial and legal advice for young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Their Independent Living Programme provides young people with a home to call their own and is their solution to breaking the cycle of young homelessness for good. At all times, their overall goal is to prepare homeless young people to live independently, and they continue to support them for six months after they’ve left.

A Classical Concert for Children by Candlelight- December 2023

The Bryan Adams Foundation hosted ‘A Classical Concert for Children’ raising money for Nordoff and Robbins Music Therapy Charity as well as a programme for school bursaries.

Nordoff and Robbins use the power of music to break through the barriers many people can face in our society. From autism to dementia, learning difficulties to brain injuries, life-limiting illnesses to mental health issues, grief and trauma, music therapy has the power to help. Their therapists are highly trained, imaginative and passionate musicians, who work with their clients as equals and allow them to connect and express themselves through music. They give a voice to people who are not normally heard within society. Last year, they reached an incredible 12,000 people and delivered more than 46,000 music therapy sessions. Whilst they provide music therapy, they also train the music therapists of the future and fund research to measure and improve the impact of their work.

The bursary scheme funded is dedicated enabling talented children from low-income backgrounds to benefit from a wonderful education via fully-funded bursaries, changing the course of a child’s life, using The Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation to identify children who face challenging circumstances and would benefit from a boarding school education. The power of bursary provision to improve social mobility and the transformative effects of education are well recognised.

Some amazing young musicians performed including Adam Heron on the piano, Mathilde Milwidsky on the violin, soprano Sarah Dufresne accompanied by Andre Callegaro and Sofia Patterson-Gutierrez on the flute.

An Evening of Opera & Picnic- 7th June 2016

The Bryan Adams Foundation put on its third evening of Opera and Picnic at The Royal Hospital Chelsea, coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of The BAF!

The funds raised were shared between three local Chelsea charities:

-The Royal Hospital Chelsea- the home of the Chelsea Pensioners for over three hundred years.

- Chelsea Academy Foundation- aiming to provide an education comparable to the best independent schools for all the pupils at Chelsea Academy, a state secondary school on Lots Road.

- “Borne”- a medical charity based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, supporting research to reduce the number of preterm births, the number one cause of infant mortality and disability worldwide.

Following a scrumptious picnic on the lawns of the Royal Hospital, escaping the thunder showers earlier in the day, guests made their way to the chapel for an outstanding performance by the Jette Parker Young Artists from the Royal Opera House. And a special performance by one of the most extraordinary tenors in the world today, Juan Diego Florez, who sang ‘O Sole Mio’ with Bryan. Charlie Siem, virtuoso violinist, performed an incredible organ duet and the night concluded with all the singers joining Bryan on stage to sing his song, All for Love.

The Bryan Adams Foundation is indebted to their two principal sponsors, Coutts and Sonova, enabling every pound raised to be donated to the charities. And we are incredibly grateful to By Word of Mouth for sponsoring the picnics and Ruinart for donating the champagne. As well as to everybody else who has supported this event so unbelievably generously.
